Microsoft is going to end support for Windows 10 at the end of October. Is it worth spending $61 per year, per machine for a Extended Security Update license?

@sonyah that depends.
- are you willing to sink a few hours into getting used to Linux? If you are, see the next question
- ok you learned Linux. Does everything you need run on Linux? If you answered yes to both of these, you should just switch and tell microsoft to pound sand permanently

- OK you can't switch - not enough bandwidth to learn / mission critical app is Windows only. Do you need another year to source a computer that is Win11 compatible? If so, the 61$ is worth it.
- don't need another year because your current PC is Win11 ready or you have the cash on hand to buy a Win11 compatible PC? Just pay for the Win11 license or buy that shiny new computer.

Hope that helps!

@unsafelyhotboots that does help! Thanks!

I guess $61 it is! And maybe save up for another gaming laptop.

@sonyah

If MS's behavior doesn't force you to switch to Linux now, you'll probably never switch.

Imagine a gasoline manufacturer who denies any responsibility for his gasoline until you buy a new car that he recommends... Would you do it?
