I must admit that I have no idea what a daily standup is and that it was a kind of meeting.

@DavidBHimself @fen It's typically a 15 minute progress report every day (or at least that's what I can gather from the internet).
Yes, it could just be an email, but tech CEOs are averse to the idea of Work from Home in general, so it's a good tool to do some harrassment.
Edit: I am probably wrong, (see this: https://mastodon.online/@teotwaki/115291765019001332). As someone who is not a working professional, maybe I should have refrained from editorializing. Leaving it up though, it reflects my views on this.

The original idea is just to huddle quickly, see if anyone has any blockers, and then move on. The original formulation meant it was explicitly not a meeting. I’ve had teams where we did the plank to ensure it was expedited as quickly as possible. Then scrum and kanban started making people move postits on whiteboards, and “ceremonies”, and it’s a farce.

SomeVeganCheeseIsOk@teotwaki @cynical_melomaniac @DavidBHimself @fen it becomes a lot more understandable when you realize that 90% of management is babysitting a couple people in each team who need extra support just to show up for the basics, and you can't just fire them because sometimes they have a point that they actually aren't getting what a reasonable amount of information on what needs to happen.

I have one meeting a month. Exceptionally (once or twice a year) two.
One meeting a month is the sane amount of meetings in my opinion. Once a week the most tolerable.
@latenightowl @DavidBHimself @cynical_melomaniac @fen yeah standard for me was 2-5 a *day* but I do cross-functional team coordination with multiple projects.
