The deadly shooting by a Trump sycophant at a LDS Church in Michigan is yet another reminder of a truth MAGA politicians want us to forget: Since 1999, Americans have endured 2,000+ shootings in houses of worship.

Yes, two thousand plus.

It isn't the "lack of God" that's causing our gun violence epidemic, it's the presence of unregulated, unmitigated, and unregistered guns fused with unhindered, unlimited, and unhinged white supremacy.

@QasimRashid "America Is A Gun"

The outside World can only watch in despair, and make sure none of that madness happens to us.

@QasimRashid - well, in fairness, there’s a lot of wacko beliefs and hatred being indoctrinated into people under the guise of religion and a god that causes people to think this sort of thing is justified. The rampant and unjustified availability of firearms just adds a vehicle to dispense their training.
@QasimRashid I'd agree that the lack of regulation for guns is a real problem, but in this case, I'd have some doubts about "unhinged white supremacy" as a contributing factor given that the shooting occurred at a Mormon church, and the national membership (according to a wikipedia article) is 86% white and 74% Republican.

@QasimRashid A NY Times article I saw today indicated that the shooter was mad at the LDS church due to a breakup with a religious girlfriend when he lived in Utah. The article didn't say whether the breakup was the girlfriend's idea or whether she was pressured, but whatever the reason, he blamed the religion. The NY times article appeared after Qasim's original comment.

@QasimRashid is there a source available to confirm the political alighnment of the perp? Latest news I've read concerning this incident, is still being investigated, no further information, or is this simply an assumption?

@QasimRashid It is a fear-driven hate that leads to the worship of guns over children

@QasimRashid
Do you have a source? The Violence Project records such data. While the numbers are horribly high — higher than they should be — as far as I can tell, their data does not yield 2,000+ shootings (homicides or otherwise):

VOA report on shootings in houses of worship, 1965-2020 (based on Violence Project data):

Thanks.

@QasimRashid

There is a trend. Most gun nuts are RWNJs.

@QasimRashid you don’t understand, they need the guns, what if a tyrant appears, who will silence opposing speach, openly take bribes, break the law and send army to american cities… wait..
