Thinking about the way we use the word stupid in the USA, vs the UK. The UK version seems to imply a temporary state that can affect anyone for various reasons, like heat or drink. It's not a judgment of your entire existence. It will pass. But in the USA, the word has more weight. We're saying someone just IS stupid, and always will be, and thus they no longer matter.
