Time to start a thread about the recently finished anime of the summer season!

And do let me know if you watched the same ones and how you liked them.

#Summer2025Anime #anime #review

Finished: #ToBeHeroX
I really liked this project, although in the beginning I still had to get it. It’s presenting an interesting lineup of very different heroes and digs deeply into their stories and what defines them as people. It is disheartening to see how everyone tries to use them, but also makes for a lot of interesting conflicts. I was positively surprised by the role of the female heroes and how their struggles with sexism were addressed. The varying animation styles worked well, too.
I admit having trouble at times to keep track of the different hero agencies and their leaders, probably because they all seem rotten.
In the end, what would make this a 10 is a second season, of which I have little doubt that it will come.
Finished: #DanDaDan season 2
It’s hard to review this because it doesn’t feel conclusive, the season even ends on a cliffhanger. On the upside, that means the manga chapters are adapted in the way they need to, rather than rushing or dragging out stuff to end up at a point in the story that is suitable for a season finale (looking at you, Undead Unluck 😒).
The season definitely had some highlights like the appearance of Evil Eye or of Kinta. And it is all drawn and animated in superb quality. As far as manga adaptations go, this is the gold standard.

Finished: #RebornAsAVendingMachine Season 2

This one is somehow in the area of not good enough to recommend but nice enough to keep watching. The characters are just likable enough to be interested in what will become of them, even though you already know nothing really bad will happen.
That's both the shortfall and the charm of the show, because on one side there aren’t any high stakes but you can watch it without worrying about your favorite characters. Even a certain plot twist didn’t really change the game in my eyes.

I think I’ll also watch the 3rd season. Boxxo and Lammis as well as the others are just likable enough for that.

Finished: #MyDressUpDarling Season 2
After the overplayed first episode this one settled in nicely. I was a bit worried that there wouldn’t be any progress in the relationship of Marin and Gojō, but it turned out I didn’t have to. The progress felt natural and I really like the addition of some characters who have found a home in cosplay and the community around it.
Not much more to say about it to be honest, I’ll watch season 3 as well if it comes.

Finished: #GrandBlue season 2

My (vague) memories of season 1 were that this was kind of funny, but what made this season shine were some really honest character interactions that didn’t stop at stereotypical behavior that you often see. Especially Iori could show some of his good points (while also being an idiot very often). I really appreciate what the show did with Busujima who was introduced by showing her worst and really grew on me, as well as Otoya who’s love for another man was treated as the most normal thing in the world by everyone involved.

I’m definitely waiting for season 3 now.

Finished: #DrStone Science Future 2

This arc did something in the end that I absolutely did not see coming. It really left an impact on me.
Generally things were going a bit too convenient here and there (like how easily they built motorbikes while being on the run) but the overall plot is still fascinating and I’m waiting to see where this goes next.

Finished: #WithYouAndTheRain

The start felt more like it was supposed to be funny, but then it settled into cozy everyday life of a person with a pet. The raccoon actually acts very much like a dog (I have a dog and was constantly thinking she’d do the same) and it’s endearing.
I don’t really get Fuji so much, like, she’s not a person I can identify with although I’m also a creative, but I still like to see them interact. This show works just perfect without anything significant happening.

I’d follow them for longer if there was another season.

Finished: #FermatKitchen / #FermatsCuisine

As an anime about cooking this is definitely most close to Shokugeki no Sōma in how high the stakes are all the time. I was quite entertained seeing Gaku take challenges that mostly made him thrive, and like how Kai is somehow both his mentor as well as acting like your average villain.
The show really takes things to the extreme but I found that it worked for me.

A minor annoyance is how the notable female characters are all romantically involved with someone while the men feel more independent, and of course the most interesting character dynamic is one between male characters (Gaku and Kai) 😩 Also not something new for Shōnen I guess.

I’d nevertheless watch a second season to see what Gaku comes up with next.

Finished: #TheSummerHikaruDied
I like this mix of sinister horror with the character drama. In the end, the BL wasn’t as strong in this as the beginning made it seem like, but the relationship of Not-Hikaru und Yoshiki is super interesting with all the ambivalence and contradictions. The surrounding characters are also everything but boring and the mystery surrounding the village is just something that makes me want to learn more.
I just wished they didn’t have to cut this in pieces because the first cour really didn’t feel conclusive.

Finished: #SilentWitch
This show was an unexpected delight and I loved it from beginning to end. Monica is a believable heroine with characteristics that are not overused. The contrast of her shyness with the power she has just works somehow, and it’s really touching to see her develop good relationships. I’m also very fond of the characters around her.
The last two episodes were especially nice - I didn’t really need her and the prince become anything but their relationship develops in such a nice believable way I just hope it stays that way.

Season two when? 🥺

#SilentWitchChinmokuNoMajoNoKakushigoto

Finished: #WitchWatch
A completely different type of witch. I’ve been following the manga so nothing that happened really surprised me, but it made me realize that I like this more than I usually admit to myself. The characters are a lovable bunch and the mix of really stupid everyday life stuff with a dash of magic and the more serious moments really works.

And that’s pretty much it for Summer season.
Finished shows I’m still watching are Sakamoto Days (reading the manga so not that curious), Binan Koukou Hi-Cara and Panty & Stocking (for the latter 2 I am wondering if I should watch more
or just drop them 😅)

And also ongoing You & Idol PreCure (not great) and Princession Orchestra (very good).

@yellowjitsch Agreed! It’s the Spider-man thing. If you give a character amazing powers, you need to ground them. Spidey has normal people problems.

Monica has normal people problems. Fitting in, having been betrayed, confidence, etc. You cheer her on. It’s a great character!

And a great story. Didn’t go over the top and used the secondary characters well to flesh out the story. The romantic parts are sweet and well paced. The prince could have been insufferable but is actually a great character.

Yes we need more seasons! Great show. I want to know more.

@yellowjitsch I’m not caught up yet, but the whole “we are going to the moon!” idea is still bonkers to me. The complexity of that is crazy. But I don’t know how it pans out :)
