Pay or consent advertising is coming the UK 👎

At the Newsmast Foundation we oppose this binary choice approach to advertising which will, without doubt, affect the most marginalised communities.

We hope that the UK will follow the example of the EU and block Meta from actioning this change.

Instagram’s ‘pay or consent’ approach to ads is coming to UK after being rejected in EU

ï»żFacebook and Instagram users face a choice: subscribe, or deal with personalized ads.

The Verge

@newsmast Well, let's hope since Meta « offered » us in France this choice back in Novembre last year:

#UE #gafam #Meta : #reality or #narrative may be the question.

@newsmast

It's already there :-(

@newsmast It isn't coming - it is already here!

All too many sites are applying that approach already - and have been doing fo0r some considerable time.

@newsmast It's already happening a lot in the UK, on news sites, blog sites and others. I'd rather not read them than consent or give them money for something that may be totally crap.

@newsmast That’s exactly why we built JustBSocial.eu
.
We don’t believe in “pay or consent” blackmail.
đŸš« No ads
đŸš« No tracking
đŸš« No forced choices

Instead, we offer a community-driven, European platform where privacy and inclusion come first.

Real independence starts when your social space isn’t built on an advertising business model.

@redegelde

100%. A place built to drive profit is inherently anti-social.

@newsmast well, your welcome. justbsocial is build on OSSN social network with my own made components. Now working on language filter. user can choose what to follow. All, own language of mix. We got no algoritme
@newsmast Pretty much every newspaper site does it now already. Even my local rag. Best just to use a private window and ublock origin if you dont want it .

@Whiskeyomega

It is a serious issue in news media but to see it seep into social media is further proof that the current 'social' model does not serve users.
