A song for my ancestors—Scottish, Irish, Jewish, and Cherokee—
Written in the spirit of "Down to the River to Pray."

"Down to the Fire and Clay"
(by @wittgensteinmonster
🎶
I went down to the fire and clay,
Studying ’bout that good old way,
And who shall wear the crown and robe—
O Lord, show me the way.
🎶
🎻
O Scottish souls, come tread the stone,
Brave in blood and kin and bone,
Hold your sword and sing your song—
O Lord, carry me along.
🍀
O Irish hearts, come dance the wind,
With fiddle, flame, and love of kin,
Bless the land and bless the rain—
O Lord, sing me again.
✡️
O Jewish stars, come light the dark,
With Torah fire and holy spark,
Bind the wounds and break the chain—
O Lord, speak my name.
🪶
O Cherokee, come walk the trail,
With river eyes and mountain wail,
Drum the past into today—
O Lord, show me the way.
🔥
I went down to the fire and clay,
Singing songs of blood and grace,
My people walk beside me now—
O Lord, I see Your face.
