I had a lovely few days in Wollongong. Motel was right by the beach with a nice balcony for wine imbibing on.

Train up to Sydney was brilliant - 90 minutes, 9 stops, tons of seats, and tons of parking at Wollongong Station (which I was a bit worried about).

The gymea plants were flowering everywhere along the train route and I was completely rapt in them. I may have picked up a gymea from a Wollongong nursery on the way home. They grow in the botanical gardens here so I'll give one a go - in a totally inappropriate space in my garden, of course.

Back home to a thunderstorm last night and an icy wind today. Gotta luv #CanberraWeather #miniholiday #wollongong #gardeningAU

@juliew2010 gymea lilies are amaaaazing. Ours blossomed in Oct 2023 after about 7-8 years being just a nice strappy foliage plant #bloomscrolling #gardeningau
@weezmgk I just love them. Yours looks fabulous.
@juliew2010 we saved some seeds from that bloom and planted them in pots. Decent germination rate. It'll take a decade or more to get flowers out of these but we're avin' a go, mite
@weezmgk good luck! I was amazed how they're just growing out of the rock retaining walls along the railway line. And they do look stunning in the forest in the national park.
