I feel extremely grateful today. In just 24 hours, my new video on the Ukraine war has had 9000 views.

I am not yet able to make a living on YouTube — far from it — but seeing the channel grow gives me a lot of hope for the future.

Thank you so much to everyone who shared, liked, and watched my content. You have made an important difference for me. ♥️

@randahl

You have a gift for this work. Keep up the good work!

@BuckRogers1965 thank you Buck. I will. Stay tuned.
@randahl the downside is that YouTube is owned by US fascists... It's hard to say on one hand 'let's boycott the US' and be happy being fed by them... Isn't there a way, a platform you could make money from without feeding the beast?

@thierry_van_kerm not being all too impressed with YouTube being owned by Google, I did some thorough research and tested out a number of services. One option was Nebula, but they require that your content is recommended by an existing Nebula content creator. Then there is PeerTube, which quite many like, but they do not have a monetisation model.

So far I have put my videos on Patreon (also American), and later this year I will test Spotify Video which is Swedish.

@randahl what about substrack? Also American but people like Robert Reich use it to monetise their content...
@thierry_van_kerm I should definitely check that out. Thank you for reminding me.
@randahl substack not substrack as I mentioned. Bloody corrector 🙂
@Randahl Fink I love your posts here on the Fedi, and I've seen a few of your videos.

But because I absolutely detest Google and their business model, I will never ever watch anything on YT directly, only through means that strip out all the surveillance crap and the ads.

I'd love to chip in, you do good work and it would only be reasonable that you get compensated for your time and work. But not through this parasitic company that earns a lot more money from your work than you, while at the same time screwing all your viewers over.

I don't have an easy solution for that, unfortunately. You could very easily publish your videos on PeerTube, which doesn't do any nasty Google stuff, but it also doesn't monetize your work.

@hans I also publish to Patreon. They do not support 4K video yet, but it is still a great service that allows me to stay connected with paying supporters. If you are interested, I am right here:

@randahl Thank you for the information you have been providing, particularly concerning the Russia / Ukraine war. Given the poor coverage of that conflict provided by mainstream media your content is even more valuable.
@michaelormsby awesome to hear that, Michael. Glad you are watching the show.
