Terence “Bud” Crawford defeats Canelo Alvarez to become the undisputed super middleweight champion of the world. Started as a lightweight, cleaned out almost every division all the way up to super middleweight. Unreal, never been done before. Pound for pound GOAT. #boxing #CaneloCrawford
@maxsidman What did you think of the scoring? I read that Crawford won the first half of the fight but then things tightened up. Hoping to watch the highlights later today, and eventually the full fight.
@hwebb I agreed with the cards for the most part, maybe a point or two of difference, but nothing was too wildly out of whack. Bud was the clear winner, it was a unanimous decision. He just clearly outboxed Canelo.
@maxsidman @hwebb I personally favor the more action packed fights, and though this one had the exchanges in the later rounds, the running just doesn't entertain me. The earlier rounds I gave Canelo, the championship rounds to Crawford. Canelo should have pressed the action more in the championship rounds though.
Do you think they want a rematch?
@fightscore @maxsidman I'm sure Canelo does, but I doubt Crawford would take it unless the money is huge. I'm not surprised that Crawford moved a lot. It would've been foolish of him to trade for the entire fight.
@hwebb @maxsidman Crawford does have the footwork, but also the longer reach to do a little bit like Bivol. But I'm partial to action-packed fights. Guess I was hoping for something like NuñezDiaz, but I guess that's how Crawford fights. Canelo really pressed the action for most of the fight until half of the last round.
@fightscore @maxsidman One of the things I've always liked about Crawford is that he's willing to mix it up, even though he could play it safe. He knocked out every welterweight he faced. But it wasn't going to happen at 168.
@hwebb @maxsidman Canelo has a great chin and as tough a fighter as only a few could be, to be fair, so a KD is a tough ask, even for someone with Crawford's skills.
@fightscore @hwebb Totally agree about Canelo’s toughness and the fortitude of his chin—Bud was never gonna get the KO. But I was happy with the amount of activity in that fight. I don’t think Bud ran, he played it right, stick and move, hit without being hit, outbox Canelo for the points. There was no question at the end.
