unexpected event the last couple of years- the Dreampop Comeback. It's never been my thing (other than Cocteau Twins) bc I listen, it sounds nice, and then my mind wanders off.
But a new generation spearheaded by Deary is making dreampop with enough edge to elevate the entire genre

if Deary is 'the greatest dreampop band since Cocteau Twins' (they are) then Softlightsymphony is The American Cocteau Twins, mining a similar vein but with their own bigger, more muscular sound
