We’ve thought carefully about building this feature, and we hope it broadens your use of Mastodon!

However, you're in control: if you don’t want your content to be quoted, you can find the setting to prevent future quotes of your content under Settings -> Preferences -> Other (in Mastodon 4.4).

@Mastodon this still doesn't affect someone just copying a link to a toot and pasting it somewhere in their own toot, right? So anyone can still "quote" anything just without the fancy formatting (and without notifying the original poster about it)... and of course, you can always just grab a screenshot, which is what many people seem to do anyway.

@eobet @Mastodon Or you can just use some other Fediverse software that has quoting implemented for ages and have been around much longer than Mastodon. Friendica, Hubzilla and Misskey to name a few.
