I haven't read Hanna's book (flipped through it a bit) but a friend mentioned it when I was actively reading on the topic.
There is also a more general one on the time period from Sara Marcus called "Girls to the Front" which I did grab for the gender take (and that was part of the reason I had the Alice Bag one mentioned earlier as she covered some of that perspective as well).

@grayson I've yet to read all three, and hadn't heard of the Alice Bag one until you mentioned it so have added that to my ever growing list of books to buy.
