I am a bit of a Star Frontiers fan myself (although I think its skill list is a little outdated and clunky).

@randomwizard Marvel! I recently came into possession of one in great shape. Love that system.
@DM_Zeppelin I have played marvel just a few times, always as a 1 shot. Kind of felt like it is designed for short games.

@randomwizard I ran a whole Avengers campaign back when it came out. Recently delved back into it. Two things that put this game over the top for my group:

The Advanced rules boxed set and

Creating our own characters, including allowing, even encouraging, my players to create themselves as heroes and setting them in our hometown.

@DM_Zeppelin How did "advancement" go as the play continued? Do the players accumulate karma and then spend the karma to boost heir powers?
@randomwizard Yes, that is an option, but my players were less concerned about advancement and more concerned with just enjoying the fun of the adventures. Now, I think they would try to advance more, though.
@DM_Zeppelin @randomwizard I think GM Zeppelin nails it for longer campaigns. It's a lot different when you can create your own characters. The original Boxed Set had that, but it was tucked in at the back of one book on two pages and very limited. Playing established heroes tended to be one-shots for us. It's also a specific vibe/tone that I thought was great for superhero games. (Edit: a particular style of superhero game)
