Trying, failing, to find the button that lets me import my lore file like is there no .backstory support on this fed of an app
WHO AM I WITHOUT CONTEXT
It always feels so fucking weird having to learn a new communications app all furitively creeping around looking for our friends, feeling tiny and tbh freeingly tiny and invisible, like the ghost of your own self trying to assemble enough of your own memories to be resurrected and be reborn anew, again It's like getting to reincarnate as your old self and it feels weird, not fan of fascism on the internet or everywhere apparently else
@criminalerin we are growing up. A child begins life totally dependent on their parents, they grow and hopefully reach a state of independence in their adolescence, and continue to grow and learn only truly reaching adulthood when they learn to live interdependent lives with others whom they truly value. We can never achieve independence inside these paternalistic centralized "social networks". They may appear to be gilded cages, but they are prisons through and through.

@criminalerin This is incredibly true. Amazing that the first post I see on Mastodon is from someone l appreciate from BlueSky. I suppose the Internet can sometimes be smaller than one expects.

The BlueSky team has shown themselves to be completely useless and untrustworthy. Sorry you got caught up in their fascism protection wave. I hope you consider migrating to NorthSky, although l'm not sure how account suspension affects that.

@Flow I'll probably get comfy here

Also I've said for years that I'll know when we're in the real thick of the Cool Zone if I'm ever forced to resort to making YouTube video content and tbh the idea of doing my little true cop crimes show with my nice radio voice is feeling increasingly tempting

I can color inside the lines of YouTube if it means I can do what Gavin Newsom said and "carry on Kirk's work" by giving young people some good old fashioned anti-copaganda lol idk! We'll see!

@criminalerin That's fair. BlueSky seems slow today. I wonder how many of my friends got suspended.

But the goals for the AT Protocol seem pretty similar to what Mastadon already has built, so joining the more mature service makes sense.

@criminalerin Not sure if you run this from the web or an app, but the Mastodon API supports many different apps on your phone some free, some paid (like Ivory), and if you don't like the Mastodon web ui, Phanpy is my favorite web client. You can log into it with your Mastodon account from jorts (and in fact with multiple Mastodon accounts at the same time) and just access them from there. It also does a good job embedding/showing links to posts. You might like it better.

There's also Elk.zone and a bunch of others.

As for my other advice for a new person, follow everyone you meet who seems interesting, and also follow hashtags. It's how your Home feed is populated. And people you follow can 'boost' (reblog) stuff into your Home feed, too.

Just a few tips. Always interesting to hear about someone kicked off Bsky.... I've never actually been there, just follow links to posts sometimes.

You'll get the hang of it quickly.
