I know I’m late, but I just tried to build and run my apps on macOS 26 and… I’m not fixing that shit
This all brought me to some thoughts about desktop UIs. I think the idea of bringing it closer to mobile/touchscreen UI is a wrong direction in 2025. Between 2005-2015 computers became truly a commodity and the main computing device during this period was desktop PC. Simpler UI, which guides you to the main functions, makes sense in this case, because computers must be accessible.
In 2025 a significant portion of people can do everything they need on a phone or tablet. Others only use desktop PCs as a “portal” to a web browser. So, I think, in 2025 desktop UI doesn’t have to cater to a wide audience. Instead, it can be tailored to the needs of advanced users who can afford a steeper learning curve. Maybe we should stop hiding “non-essential” features for the sake of not overwhelming user, maybe we can make UI denser. Power users know better what is essential to them.
Unironically, I started thinking that this is actually great UX. If this is convenient for some user and it makes them more efficient, why should we stand in their way?
