Political violence is abhorrent. I have not celebrated Kirk's death. But Newsom calling for his followers to "continue Charlie Kirk's work," someone who praised stoning gay people as "god's perfect law," who called for men to "take care of" trans people like they did in the 50s and 60s, is not it.
Charlie Kirk's Work was calling transgender people a "throbbing middle finger to god"
Charlie Kirk's "Work" was to tell his followers to take care of transgender people like they did "in the 50s and 60s"
Charlie Kirk's "work" was literally the opposite of what Newsom is calling for here. He specifically worked AGAINST "empathy." bsky.app/profile/tran...

Charlie Kirk's "work" was to harm people like the people I love. Charlie Kirk's work was his organization pushing the anti-LGBTQ+ hate around the country during the last election. www.adl.org/resources/ba...

You can stand against political violence - I do. You can call for a kinder politics - I do. You can condemn killing over speech - I do. But calling for people to continue Kirk's work is too far. This was not Charlie Kirk's legacy.
@erininthemorning.com Will this be a harbinger of the future in the US?
Kirk promoted this white nationalist conspiracy theory, which alleges that demographic change in the United States is a plot to replace white Americans. In August 2025, Kirk also accused a Black Democratic lawmaker of being part of an "attempt to eliminate the white population".
Kirk made numerous controversial remarks on race. He denied the existence of systemic racism, called white privilege a "racist idea," and characterized the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as a "huge mistake". He also criticized Martin Luther King Jr., calling him "awful".
Kirk openly embraced Christian nationalist language, claiming that freedom was only possible with a Christian population. He also stated that there is "no separation of church and state" and that it was a "fabrication".
Kirk drew criticism for derogatory remarks toward the LGBTQ+ and Muslim communities. For example, he likened Islam's Prophet Muhammad to a sex offender and claimed in April 2025 that Islam was "at odds" with Western values.
@erininthemorning.com They're gonna talk about him being about the same age as Jesus. They probably are already.
