That Banksy (which just got painted over) of a judge beating a protester is a powerful piece of street art, but I can’t resist pointing out that British judges don’t use gavels.
I’m told that I don’t understand art.
@mattblaze this toot is art. 👆🏻
@mattblaze Political art is unique. It has the power to initiate change.
@DebErupts thank you for the information.

@mattblaze That's Mastodon for you...

I saw two OCDs at play, no harm done...

I did not know England does not use gavels, useful. Does not diminish the value of the art and the utter humourlessness of the English establishment

England never was a free country....

@mattblaze

I though the same thing when it first came out, but didn't seem relevant at the time.

bless US tv dramas for their influence over the world 🤦‍♀️

@maya_b @mattblaze Yeah, I've seen gavels in British TV drama.
@mattblaze Sorry, are you saying that the iconic Monty Python sketch is wrong? Did he not in fact bang his gavel :)
@mattblaze Adding insult to injury, no doubt...
@mattblaze But we all think they do. So much so that, in our 'orientation' at jury service, they actually pointed it out. 😆

@mattblaze
Do you even*get* art?
@goatrodeo I do not. I require literal accuracy in everything. Abstraction is degenerate subversion.
@mattblaze @goatrodeo I hear there's a vaccine these days so you needn't get art.
@oclsc @mattblaze
snark begets snark I guess, but vaccine jokes are just so hard to stick
@goatrodeo @oclsc @mattblaze you can make it work but only if most people get it.

@mattblaze @goatrodeo

As long as we're being literal, I usually *get* my art from the internet. I like that Banksy fellow. He's got a bit of talent.

@mattblaze today is no day for snark, sorry I don’t make the schedule
@goatrodeo I’m sorry for any distress my comments caused you.

@mattblaze @goatrodeo

Und gestatten Sie mir, „Entartete Kunst“ Godwins Gesetz vorzustellen!

@awk wigs or gavels. One or the other, please.

@mattblaze

First version was a judge holding a tiny bobby.

@mattblaze This is the kind of quality content I’m here for.
@mattblaze why can't we all just focus on that fantastic wig. maybe we *should* do wigs, damn it.
@quinn ir would be unfair for a judge to get both a wig AND a gavel. That’s too much power for any individual to have.
@mattblaze look, you don't make the rules...

@quinn @mattblaze NGL, the older I get, the more appreciation I feel for Britain's bullshit political traditions. 😉

I think I'm mostly jealous that we don't get any Swan Uppers.
