What do you think of #Lifepath mechanics in ttrpgs?
Examples of this that come to my mind would be Classic #Traveller or #Cyberpunk2020.
What other examples do you know?
echo@HeyeBodo Burning Wheel has a fascinating life path system. Regarding the OSR, Luke Crane, the Author of Burning Wheel, has also written a (small) life path system for Shadowdark, but I haven't read that one.
@echozeta i must check out the one for Shadowdark! Enjoyed reading the burning Wheel so much, but never could wrap my head around the mechanics.
ckeen@echozeta @HeyeBodo I have it on the shelf and it is quite good to connect background to stat changes. But I guess the main reason the life paths went out of fashion is that they don't fit so well when there's also character advancement in the system. A lot of people lamented the lack of that in traveler
