oh god my samba configuration broke

I never have a good time when I have to remember samba exists

good news! the problem wasn't samba, it was windows
@foone Samba, from macOS to Debian, somehow requires that the username - when entered on the Mac - is provided in uppercase or it simply doesn't work.
@growf @foone that's due to #SMB & #Apple's reimplementation of it because #Samba going #GPLv3 necessistated that.

@growf @foone I use the same lowercase username that I created using smbpasswd on Debian to mount my Samba shares on macOS, other Debians, and Windows. Are you bumping into an AD policy thing?

Maybe adding a mapping to /etc/samba/users.map will help?
