OMN projects are tools for YOU to change and challenge the world we live (and die) in

The Open Media Network (#OMN) is an “anything in, anything out” network powered by a mediated trust system. Instead of one corporation or #NGO controlling the flow, the commernerty decides what happens to the data that moves through it. At its core, the #OMN is a data soup: tagged data objects flowing through channels. These flows are shaped by trust. You consume and share based on your trust relationships, not on algorithms designed to manipulate you. Key features are built-in, not […]

@info Is this something which might underpin OMN? Maybe a kick-off point?

Calling all #foss, #gnu, #guix developers! Please help if you can with the Stage-0 bootstrap of a Mycelium network. The purpose is to provide mutual provenance: in the first place it will prove we are actual humans. The salient features are * you are not discoverable, * there is absolutely no centre; it is entirely distributed * only your trusted friends can know your API end-point; you will not be spammed. 1/2 https://khleedril.org/mycelium-bootstrap-0. #mycelium #myceliumboot0

@khleedril Interesting, love the indymedia links, have added them to the end of the post as example of grassroots #DIY media.

My first thought is that this is “solving” a different problem, it’s facilitating closed affinity groups, where the #OMN based on https://unite.openworlds.info/Open-Media-Network is trying (and failing) to facilitate open affinity groups, the bridge between these two paths is sudo anonymous – how would this fit into the Forgejo
work flow (which is an in perfect tool, but the tool we have)

On the more public facing projects, it’s about ActivityPub as a standard, to become a part of the wider ecosystem of the #openweb, so how would it bridge to this existing path?

This is the core oganising space for all the projects

@info ``how would this fit into the Forgejo

Yeh, nah. I don't regard Forgejo as anything but a device for surfacing GIT repositories on the Web.

The project will progress (I hope) by people cloning the GIT repository, making their own developments, advertising, running an acceptance poll (this is the next stage of the bootstrapping process which I am working on), and if accepted, theirs then becomes the official repository. ...

@info ... The previous owner would change the repository signatories to add the new modifier in, who can then make an official, fully signed-off release.

This way the project has a life of its own, fully embracing the #4open philosophy; it is not tied down to any forge.
