Holy moley I think I managed to successfully transplant the hairspring of a balance with a broken staff in a balance with a kinked hairspring and made a functional balance complete.

Fingers for scale.

Horology is scary. And fun.

This is the result. I have no idea if the movement will actually tick after I'm done. Did I out the mainspring back in the correct orientation? Where are the pallet fork and how did I manage to shear off the click's screw? 😬
(the pallet fork is safe and secure in a jewelery box and thankfully I have a spare click/bridge set to replace the one I broke off)
@karl did it kick off and start running? Don’t leave us hanging!

@jamon So, yes, the graft kind of worked, but unfortunately the balance wheel wasn't as good as I thought, and a pivot appears to be damaged. While troubleshooting I kinked the hairspring a bit, so I'll have to try and manipulate it to salvage the thing.

I have a third Lorsa P62 with a functional balance complete (with shock-protection), so I will manage to get a working movement out of this once I've cleaned up all the parts.

@karl sounds like a real adventure - nice that you’ve got a backup just in case. Go poke at the hairspring with some number 5 fine tweezers because you can :)

@jamon Oh yeah I'm definitely going to try to manipulate that hairspring back into shape.

Yesterday I took this thing apart and put it back together with mitigated success. First time having a close look at a calendar complication.

Well, that watch had no hairspring and no pallet fork. I wasn't able to properly settle the pivots in the main bridge so I might go back to it someday for extra practice, but that was a rather unpleasant movement to work on (corners were cut to keep the cost low, and that showed).

I managed to put the calendar works back together though, and understood how it did the thing, so that's a win.

@jamon Putting that spring back in place was by far the most challenging part of the operation.
@karl yes! Calendar ring and spring alignment always mess me up. So fiddly
