Anyone ever attempt an AirPods Max battery swap? After 5 years of near daily use the battery life is finally Not Great™
@christianselig Do you have Apple Care on those?
@Alexjusino If I did I don't anymore haha
@christianselig I think it’s around $80 to change the battery at the Apple Store.
@christianselig but what if you didn’t deprive yourself of the opportunity to get one of the other great over ears.
@dpi Any recs? I've never found anything as comfy as Apple's that also jumps between devices so effortlessly
@christianselig I see a tonne of: XM4/5/6, QC Ultra, Accentum on the street. Bose myself, speaking as someone who has all Apple product types than Vision/APM.
The switching/multi-device/multipoint pairing these have seem to work just fine. But obviously nothing can compete with handover/whatever Apple is capable of.
@dpi @christianselig I would advise to see Sony’s subreddit if thinking of buying XM5 or XM6. XM5 has a hinge failure that is really widespread, not worth the money even on sale. XM6 is better because they changed the hinge to metal, but the design transfers the pressure to the band, which also breaks. Not a good time for the XM series, unfortunately.
@christianselig what’s the price of Apple’s battery replacement swap?

@christianselig I looked at the teardown of the headphones. You have to almost completely dismantle the device (including the use of a heatgun to deal with adhesive) before you get to the battery. It looks daunting to me.

Please record a video of your efforts 😜

@christianselig You can go to the Genius Bar to have them replaced for the cost of the battery, I believe $79 in the US not sure about CAD
@christianselig My APM battery swap consisted of ordering a new pair, and giving the old ones to my sister.
@christianselig just hold off and get the next gens…
@covercash I'm not spending $500 because the battery is bad lol
@christianselig did it a few months back and it was a messy process. Btw they ask you to keep your ear cups. First time battery was replace but technician damaged the mesh headband. Sent them back to replacement and the second time the headband adjustment mechanism was too smooth and didn’t stop like before. On the third time they swapped it for a new one. I figured the new ones have a different sliding mechanism for head adjustment and it doesn’t stay in place like the first gen did.
@christianselig I had so much problems with mine that they went to warranty twice and I got rid of them
