The outside water pump is right next to my home office so I can hear any time it turns on. It's pretty handy to deal with homeowner's paranoia about leaks. Just had a continuous water pumping mystery which turned out to be one of the guest bathroom toilets circulating water endlessly because of some broken mechanism.
I was just thinking this is the first instance of where I might appreciate some kind of "smart home" bullshit with water flow analytics. There's probably some IoT flow meter I could buy but dunno if I want to enter that nightmare realm. The current "the water pump is making noise that doesn't correlate to any intentional use of water" method has been adequate.
@pervognsen mechanical sympathy
@tekknolagi "The CPU fans are spinning up for no apparent reason. Oh, it's Microsoft Compatibility Telemetry. Again."
@tekknolagi I just realized I have a water-cooled PC now so the analogy is really spot on. Although fortunately the AIO is silent. But my environment is accreting water pumps at an alarming rate.
@pervognsen i think all new meters in DK are transmitting the water usage - that’s really useful for detection e.g. leaks happening in a summer house while away
