Hi, so, Smutlandia died and I just did not have the spoons to find a new server before that happened.

I thought I had until the end of the month, but I looked today and everything was just gone.

Please bear with me while I try to make connections again. I have lost all my followers, my profile, everything. It's not even on the WayBack Machine. I don't really have more energy than I did before. It will take me a minute to sort things out. If you see this please RT to help me find my people.

@rubyjones i wish you best of luck!!!

one thing that bothers me a little bit about fedi is how hard it can be to find new connections in a given interest topic sometimes

i mean sure you can click hashtags, or you can be on a topic-focused instance and use the local posts feature, but if there is a silver lining to content promotion algorithms, it's that they can provide an assorted feed and always refresh it with new stuff

but for the record, i think its a conscious and worthwhile decision to have things the way they are, im generally happy with fedi uwu

@wallabra to be honest, I did find it easier here than on Twitter. I was able to build a decent following much quicker. Part of that was joining at the right time, but on Twitter the algorithm was an active hindrance. So many people posting solely with the algorithm in mind, very hard to find people actually interested in you, and then impossible for a new voice to get taken up by the algorithm to be heard.

It's not just my general dislike; I never found it useful at all.

@rubyjones I find it easier on Bluesky but I have experienced the fact that, in Mastodon, hashtags actually mean something, and it's honestly crazy
