What really blows my mind is how much of what passes for modern conservatism is really just adult oppositional defiant disorder.

@Neddyo @lizardllama when their healthcare goes away and they canโ€™t afford groceries, it will be interesting to see if they really can sustain themselves on a diet of liberal tears.
@lizardllama I am becoming a fan of actual conservatives, like David Frum and George Will, while the rest of the "conservatives" continue to embrace fascism, authoritarianism, and the cult of personality.
@JoeAce967 Frum is someone Iโ€™ve definitely come to respect despite disagreeing with him broadly. The fact that I can often agree with Bill Kristol makes me want to open a vein, but here we are.
@lizardllama I know. My much younger self would be like "wtf?!" because I couldn't stand conservatives, but my younger self had no idea we'd be in this shittily written storyline.
@JoeAce967 @lizardllama I loathe Kristol and his smarmy perma grin. But he was one of the few Republicans (I thought there would be many more) who openly said early on Trump was not on their team. Kristol said Trump was not a conservative nor a Republican and is a bad person. None of his Republican colleagues listened. I hope he enjoyed watching his brand of Republican conservatism burn on the funeral pyre. The problem is now we are all left with what replaced it.

@Conville @JoeAce967 all the people weโ€™re talking about were (I think) victims of their own delusion that conservatism was some lofty set of principles. It was always what you see now, but Trump stripped out the dog whistles and said it out loud and the base fell in love with him for it.

Killed me when Harris tried to appeal to that nonexistent demographic. Huge error.

Yeah, Trump really hasn't replaced the Republican party; he's merely exposed it for what it has always been.
