I do not find funny that piece of shit.
The "artificial" intelligence portrayed by Data in ST:TNG represents a fight for the rights of minorities and a fight for the rights of people mislabeled as "different".
Is not a subject to be used in such kind of bad humor. And worse drawing.
If someones wants to mock AI, do it for all means. It's a lie that must die, the sooner, the better.
But do not use characters that were created with a much higher intention and purpose.
Oh I am perfectly fine here.
Maybe you are the one that thinks this is X, Facebook or any of that shit filled up with stupid memes.
Maybe you see Data as the epithome of artificial intelligence.
As i see him is much more, with its child atitude not understanding the world around, it portraits people with such kind of mental awareness. Using it for a joke is make a joke about those persons.
And joking about those in weaker positions in society is bullying.
Remember EP09S02 "The Measure of a Man".
@DBG3D @Anneke Neither LLMs nor any of the other flavors of inference or machine learning systems we have masquerading as "AI" today are in any way related to artificial intelligence. The contrast to Data, being a true sentient artificial intelligence and the absurdity of comparing him to LLMs is the point of the comic.
If you feel the need to argue more about this, please untag me.
@DBG3D
You know Data is more than... I know it, and I'm sure all we know that.
But Musk, Gates, Altmann and co don't know that. They think grok or chatgpt are as the computer of the ship and that one day, maybe by magical, some of their LLM will become some like the positronic brain of data.
So is a good joke. Fascists don't usually understand things.
@Anneke @earthshine
@DBG3D I'd say you're misaing the point. It's not thst this Data isn't a person, or thst abusing him would be morally okay.
It's that he's a Dunning-Keuger level idiot, and this is not someone that you want to put in a position of trust.
@DBG3D
Usually I hate eplxaining jokes, but I will make an exception, since it is not funny anyway, still I laughed because of the satirical element:
Using the probably most beloved fictional AI character as a paraody here, is exactly what is needed to make the message work. This is how our future will look like.
This is not about making Data look bad. It is about making the present look bad.
You perfectly spotted the controversy, intended or not, that Data himself is a minority. But (LLM) AI - as it is present in our everyday lives right now - is not.
@earthshine @benetnasch You've reminded me of this comic. Enjoy.
Edit: Somehow this is making the rounds, so here's the link to the original. You may enjoy their brand of humour. https://www.threepanelsoul.com/comic/prompt-injection
Data jeopardizes an emergency mission to save an ill child when he receives a signal from his creator, Noonien Soong. Dr. Crusher is involved in a medical emergency as Willie Potts, a young child of the USS Enterprise-D, is infected by parasites from a cove palm that he ate during shore leave on Ogus II with his brother Jake. Willie ate the parasitic fruit while upset from a practical joke in which Jake pretended Willie had killed him with a toy laser pistol by stuffing a balloon with red...
Aboard a runabout, Picard, Data, La Forge, and Troi encounter time distortions; they also discover the Enterprise, frozen in time while in battle with a Romulan warbird – and seconds away from destruction. Commander Riker is sitting on one of the biobeds in sickbay with two deep cuts on his forehead. As Dr. Crusher scans the cuts with a medical tricorder, she says that this is not just a scratch and that it serves him right for playing parrises squares like he was twenty-one. She warns that...
@earthshine This reminds me of Linus asking Gemini Ai what watch he's wearing and it confidently claimed wrong answer 3 times and kept apologizing every time he told it the answer is wrong in Google Pixel 10 Pro/XL review.
Like, stop making confident claims with "it's X". It would be entirely different if it only claimed "it appears to be". Then again just make shit better because all of this shit can berelly be called any kind of intelligence...
Defunding NASA to use public money to finance a private company that's playing with space to advertise its auto industry is already a sign of serious idiocy. And it started before the current administration.
