The star trek future we have at home:
@earthshine "No you can't, don't even try!"
@earthshine Elon Soong of course being infamous for his meth binges that would end with products thst looked amazing at first glance, but would inevitably show flaws after only a short time. He was named after his ancestor who was known to do the same thing with ketamine.
Why Star Trek’s Klingons & Romulans Both Have Bird-Of-Prey Starships

Why do Romulans & Klingons both have a Bird-of-Prey?

ScreenRant
@earthshine I experienced this today.

@earthshine @benetnasch You've reminded me of this comic. Enjoy.

Edit: Somehow this is making the rounds, so here's the link to the original. You may enjoy their brand of humour. https://www.threepanelsoul.com/comic/prompt-injection

@QuasiTemporal reminds me a lot of this episode where data receives a signal from dr soong and suddenly takes over the ship https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Brothers_(episode)
Brothers (episode)

Data jeopardizes an emergency mission to save an ill child when he receives a signal from his creator, Noonien Soong. Dr. Crusher is involved in a medical emergency as Willie Potts, a young child of the USS Enterprise-D, is infected by parasites from a cove palm that he ate during shore leave on Ogus II with his brother Jake. Willie ate the parasitic fruit while upset from a practical joke in which Jake pretended Willie had killed him with a toy laser pistol by stuffing a balloon with red...

Memory Alpha
@sk Oh yeah, really good point! Hadn't even occurred. For me, it called to mind "Timescape", where the fake Romulan aliens blew up the ship until time reversed. https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Timescape_(episode)
Timescape (episode)

Aboard a runabout, Picard, Data, La Forge, and Troi encounter time distortions; they also discover the Enterprise, frozen in time while in battle with a Romulan warbird – and seconds away from destruction. Commander Riker is sitting on one of the biobeds in sickbay with two deep cuts on his forehead. As Dr. Crusher scans the cuts with a medical tricorder, she says that this is not just a scratch and that it serves him right for playing parrises squares like he was twenty-one. She warns that...

Memory Alpha
@QuasiTemporal @earthshine @benetnasch I didn’t remember the comic, but the art style alone made me sure it was 3 Panel Soul at a glance.
@MacBalance It's always pretty cool when you can recognize a work by it's art style. Thanks for the thought.

@earthshine This reminds me of Linus asking Gemini Ai what watch he's wearing and it confidently claimed wrong answer 3 times and kept apologizing every time he told it the answer is wrong in Google Pixel 10 Pro/XL review.

Like, stop making confident claims with "it's X". It would be entirely different if it only claimed "it appears to be". Then again just make shit better because all of this shit can berelly be called any kind of intelligence...

@earthshine What the strip doesn't show is that Data has to be linked directly to the Enterprise's dilithium matrix to provide the resources required by his functions
@earthshine I always wanted to make a comic about voice recognition mistakes and situate it on the Enterprise deck but technology moved and I am lazy and this is exactly what is in my head when people complain about AI hallucination ( I don't use it.)
@earthshine
Isn't that Lt. Cmd. Grok? 🤔
@earthshine It’d be worth linking the original artist's post: https://bsky.app/profile/johngoodman.bsky.social/post/3lxczr4jvys26

@misty thanks I don't have a bsky
@earthshine No problem! The artist's profile is public, so you can check his timeline without an account.

*Ask AI a question* *Spits out incorrect garbage* "All that shit you said was wrong" "You're right! It was incorrect!"

@earthshine Where does artificial intelligence end and artificial stupidity begin. Or is there even any difference?

@earthshine

Defunding NASA to use public money to finance a private company that's playing with space to advertise its auto industry is already a sign of serious idiocy. And it started before the current administration.
