i’ve put it in denatured alcohol for degreasing and actual cleaning. not sure how long tho’? it’s a lot cleaner already, rust aside.

and that bacterium is more commonly harboured in rusty metals than non-rusty metals, particularly if they're rusty from being outside, like this, and partly because the rust provides much more surface area where it can hide out, and partly because if you get cut by a rusty object the odds of any carried bacteria making it past your skin are higher because the rust will shed into the skin break.
also, it was mostly a joke.
