Due to power dynamics there is no "open AI". Unlike open source, where a person could still significantly contribute, the required scale and cost of compute puts most AI* development out of reach of most.

So, no. “Just as the CC licenses helped build the open web, we believe CC signals will help shape an open AI ecosystem grounded in reciprocity.”

This is fundamentally different. This is license-washing.

The word "consent" only features once on the CC Signals page. This alone is telling.

More so as they suggest that: "If everyone blocks access, everyone loses."

Actually, nobody used to block access, what people demand is CONSENT and AGENCY over what they produced. With RESPECT for the terms on which it is shared. Violations of this social contract made the thing collapse, not the other way around.

This has been fait accompli by the AI businesses.

@koen_hufkens finally had some time to read this and my main question is: if we're not enforcing the original licenses and all of these signal things start with credit... How are you (CC) planning to enforce this? Why this pointless add when we already had access to the tools we need but no strong stance from the founding organisation on how to commit to them.

I'm very disappointed in this development. May start recommending the other data licenses now instead of CC ones..
