I keep hearing the term "permacomputing" but haven't actually sat down with it until reading it just now in your article. And it's perfect. It's wonderful.

It's exactly what I'm trying to do in a lot of things as well.

I put out writerdeckOS (used to be called Tinker Writer Deck OS) and have a version 1.0 out right now. I'm working on the next version, as well as a graphical version. This turns laptops, chromebooks, and soon Raspberry Pi's into dedicated old school word processors or "writer decks".

@tinker It's been a while! Woah holy shit this is awesome, I was looking for something like this recently and could only find janky web apps. A whole bootable OS?! Crazy cool!

@hydroponictrash - I'm finalizing a LiveBoot USB right now. So you won't even need to overwrite your current operating system. Just liveboot directly into a word processor and save to a USB (or to a persistent partition on the LiveUSB.

@tinker @hydroponictrash why is it 64bit 😅?? Such a lovely idea but the laptop I've been recently turning into a diy writer os is 32. I installed void Linux

@licho @hydroponictrash - That's just the one I put out at first. I'm working on a 32bit, and an RPi image as well.

Right now, you can still create the writerdeckOS by installing the latest Debian 32bit "headless" image and then running the config at https://github.com/tinkersec/tinkerwriterdeck
