When somebody offers me some old computer related stuff, I tend to accept it, irrelevant of what it is. You never know…

I don’t remember how I got this box and I never knew its use.

Before posting about it, I did a bit of research. I sent ChatGPT a picture of the connector which looked to me as a distinctive feature. It got the number of pins wrong, so I counted them.

62! What mysterious device connected to that 62-pin D-shell connector?

@ebariaux The cable looks the same as on my expansion unit for an IBM PC (5150). Here’s a page about it: https://www.computinghistory.org.uk/det/21352/IBM-5161/

@crdotson Interesting, I did not know such a box existed for the IBM PC.

After a quick check, I saw that the original 8-bit PC bus (later called ISA) has 62 pins, same the expansion boxes connector.

I wonder if it’s a simple pin-to-pin wiring but I doubt it.
