I struggle so hard with dog posts knowing people are more interested in treating their dogs (who are kind of expensive to begin with) well than they are their countrymen... specifically their mothers, or other people's mothers. And yeah, it's like every single dog post. Sorry if I'm a one-note drone--that's how it is in my head.
i understand what you're saying but anyone who gives such care and devotion might also be contemporaneously giving to people too, i don't see it as either/ or. if not, it's easy stepping stone from the dog to people
rather, the problem is the asshole who is spitting on homeless people, and then kicking their dog when they get home
@benroyce People who kick dogs aren't very likely to be accumulating wealth, and it's the wealth accumulation that's a primary driver of poverty... which is probably a driver of dog-kicking.
@benroyce And the rich often enough spend more money on their pets than many Americans make in a year. I'm not looking to be species-egocentric, I just want people with some retirement savings to check their expenditures, as heart-rending as they may be, before voting for lower taxes or denying that much-needed donation.
I struggle with how good pets have it. I really do.

@benroyce they all (pretty much) ignore human suffering already. As far as companions go, those aren't for the rich so much as they're for men who _want_ to be rich, and they'll spend their paychecks in an effort to chase that dream... rather than on therapy.
