Getting an espresso machine is a great way to upgrade your life
@simonbs Are you still happy with your choice of machine and mill one year in?

@joshua I'm mostly happy. It makes great espresso. The machine had a fault and just came back from my local repair shop yesterday, so I'm still a bit nervous as to whether they've fully fixed it.

The aesthetics mean a lot to me, as it's placed prominently in my kitchen. There's only one other machine I like the aesthetics of, and that's the Linea Mini. It's pricey, though 😬 So yeah, I'm happy 😄

@simonbs Sounds good! I remember you being worried about the mess of espresso-making, so kudos for everything still looking so impeccably clean and tidy. I‘m a bit jealous.
@joshua Oh yeah! I was very worried about that. It turns out it's not a biggie. I do wipe the surfaces after making a shot, though. Ultimately, it's worth it. Even with a bit of extra labor, I'm getting coffees way faster than I did when doing drip coffee and that's a big plus in my book.
@simonbs @joshua if it’s the aesthetics you could get a Micra instead of the mini, way cheaper but still a lot of money :)
@silvetti @joshua That’s true but I’d have to make too many compromises with the Micra. Both the Micra and Mini are way too expensive for what they offer but at least the Mini comes with a few extra niceties.
@simonbs @joshua yeah I feel you… I needed up going with a Lelit Bianca because of that. I really wanted the looks but also more control than Linea M/m provided
@simonbs Oh I have the same machine but in black :)
@simonbs What model is the grinder that you use?
@czichon I'm using an Eureka Mignon Libra. I think it's a great grind-by-weight grinder for home use that doesn't cost a fortune like other GBW grinders. The only downside is that it struggles a bit with bottomless portafilters. I really enjoy its aesthetics, though, and that's an important aspect to me.
@simonbs Except that you're getting used to great coffee, and this becomes a problem during travel. 🙃

@simonbs yes! But it causes an issue when trying to enjoy coffee basically anywhere outside of your home. So not sure if my net happiness actually went up :-/

P.s.: Had the same setup for a while. Great fun!

@markustrautwein That’s true but I also find a weird pleasure in getting coffee outside home and knowing I can do better at home — or used to be the opposite 😄

I’m curious what your new setup is 👀

@simonbs 😂 I can see that!

I liked the Ascaso Steel, but mine had some quality issues. As in screws falling out of it randomly and at some point it just stopped working completely.

But I liked the Ascaso concept and tech, so I upgraded to the Baby T. Pretty nice machine - but it also lost some pieces and the water tank split for the second time now. 🤷‍♂️

@simonbs hear hear! This is my setup since 2006. Really makes finding good coffee outside home a challenge.
