Discussing at diner my nephew’s decision to quit #Australian Defence Force training which he began only a few months ago.

His sole reason for quitting after trying so hard to get accepted.

THE RACISM.

He is absolutely gutted.

Don’t think racism is ingrained in #Australia? Then you’re living under a rock.

I thought we were better than this. Apparently not.

#NoRacism #NoHatred #Acceptance #Diversity #AustralianMilitary

@SydneyJim
it is ingrained in EVERY white dominated society.

@Mastopoet Not just “white.”

My family is subjected to racism constantly by Chinese in Australia. The Chinese are as racist as “whites.” It’s sadly a part of human nature to automatically segregate & divide, to label & to differentiate. Rather than realising that everything is one whole, everything is connected & a seamless part of the universe.

@SydneyJim yes I am aware that several Asian populations can behave as bad as those of us from English extractions, especially if they have Community where they control the institutions. If it is just individual anti white bias, that’s not really racism, though it might sting a bit
@Mastopoet Sorry mate, that doesn’t cut the mustard in Australia under our laws. Treating another person differently with malice simply because of their race is RACISM. Anti-white bias? My family are Japanese.
@SydneyJim
Hard to imagine a modern society that is more racist than the white Australian community, including the Deep South USA I grew up in…

@SydneyJim I think I'm a little surprised that you're surprised.

After all, look at how Australia treats the asylum seekers it keeps on Nauru and Manus Island.

@SydneyJim As a white guy who grew up in California and moved to Australia, the blatant public racism in here, particularly in politics, was quite a shock. I think things over there have swung *far* in the other direction, with all the latent racism and other bigotry coming out of the woodwork, but I think it's also gotten a little bit worse here over the last decade. If it's visible to me, it's got to be excruciating to people of colour.
