When people fight dirty, they aren't going to stop just because you fought with honor. And it's not going to convince anyone fighting dirty that winning dirty isn't a better end for them.
"When there is cancer, you have to "fight" it. You can't reason with cancer, you can't wish it away. Cancer doesn't play by the rules, so neither can you. And you can't listen to what anybody else tells you. You have to be willing to give up everything because cancer will take everything."
@YourShadowDani @Strandjunker As Luthen said in _Andor_: "I’m condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else’s future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I’ll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude. So what do I sacrifice? Everything!”
This is what it looks like to fight an existential threat.
You never, ever beat a bully by going high. You have to take the fight to them otherwise they’ll keep escalating.
problem is, no one is going high . . .
The American voter doesn't reward going high. Those who go low are regarded as being more powerful for their willingness to do so.
The Obamas, while saying that, were not pursuing and arresting torturers. There's nothing lower, except pedophiles. And voters backed that call.
Adam Driver couldn't interest people in the torture story; his movie sank without a trace. Torture got a thumbs up, really.
Go low next time. Go VERY low, just for a surprise attack.
Need to start going much lower, and keep doing it until they agree to everyone not going low at all
