Interesting talk by the recipient of the SIAM Industry prize, Richard Allen from Pfizer. During the pandemic, they created a mathematical model for covid. The purpose was not to find a drug, but to figure out how to use it. They ended up suggesting a 5-day treatment period for Paxlovid for the initial clinical trials. This was spot on, meaning that the model reduced the time needed to get approval and thus saved a lot of lives!
