Hello friends in #Japan

We're going to be visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka in November / December.

Let me know if you'd like to meet for a beer / dinner. Also happy to take tourist recommendations 😃

@Edent

not a real „tourist“ recommendation but there is a TPAC nearby :)

TPAC 2025: Overview

@sl007 sadly I'm too late for TPAC and too early for the Linux event.
@Edent The aquarium in Osaka is excellent. And it is relatively easy to reach some hot-spring resorts from Kyoto. Yeah, I know, not exactly secret travel tips
@Edent I don’t live in Japan (though we’ll probably be there around then as well) but the railway museum in Kyoto is fantastic.
@Edent my wife and I got lots of recs from the Noma In Kyoto book but the stand-out resto was https://maps.app.goo.gl/LLyoZot7ADuNbDP37 (we wound up being the only people in that night) and https://maps.app.goo.gl/eAsF9zkbZuhu8PFV7 for buying knives

@Edent Tourist recommendation - when in Tokyo visit Hakone either as a day trip or on your way to Kyoto. Having done it as a day trip on my way to Kyoto I regretted not spending longer and very much rushed doing the "route" (Hakone-jinja Shrine, Sightseeing Cruise, Cable car upto Owakudani - views of Mt Fuji, Hakone Open Air Museum) particularly as could have done more if I staying and spent longer at various things.
@Edent In Osaka probably already on your radar but worth a visit to Kinkaku-ji "Golden Pavilion" - incredibly touristy (and busy with both national tourists and foreigners) but it is a world heritage site for a reason.
