We are hiring for both a Director of Product Management and a Senior Product Architect for Cloud Networking (eg, within #Linode / #akamai_technologies Cloud). The former is a remote US position while the latter is a remote Czechia/Poland position.

Come help specify and design a modern cloud networking platform (eg, utilizing IPv6-centric design patterns, while also meeting legacy IPv4 needs).

@nygren As an Internet Systems Architect, I was hoping if I could ask you something as I just finished applying for a SRE role at Akamai. Honestly, looking through job specs, I was a bit confused in determining the best way to frame my experience. This is just for my future reference -

In your experience, how is fairly involved, hands-on homelab and personal project work(e.g. managing a bare-metal private cloud, container orchestration, custom monitoring, microcontrollers) typically valued for these kinds of infrastructure roles? As oppose to x years of doing y professionally?
@abe That's a good question. I haven't been a hiring manager in many years so I can't say for certain. Hands-on experience is certainly critical, especially top-to-bottom as you describe. As roles become more senior, having professional industry experience can also be invaluable for having an appreciation for operating production systems, as things such as change safety, security, high availability, procedure development, o11y, etc are also important parts of an SRE role.
