The South Park thing.

There are many takes on it. This is mine. Formulated as a series of bullet points because they don't deserve better. All of these things can be true at the same time:

@jwz It’s fine to make fun of “both sides” because they both do their own ridiculous crap, but equating them…naw. Hell naw.
@jwz Body shaming omg! Next they will shame people because they are drunk all the time
@jwz I saw the one scene everyone was going apeshit over (the Satan+Trump bedroom scene), as it showed up in my feed on blooskie. I didn't get it, or at least didn't laugh, so decided the rest of the episode was not for me. The brothers Parker can make funny/smart/kind stuff (e.g. The Book of Mormon), but the formula of South Park doesn't seem to have room for it. I think it's worn the grooves into its lane so deep over decades of driving the same road, there's no way to make any surprise turns.
@jwz “Coalition building must include useful idiots, such as 4chan billionaires.” Amen.
@jwz Ridiculing the fascist regime is great, but punching up doesn’t make also punching down cool or funny.
@yamainu I'm sorry, I must have missed the part where I called them cool or funny.
@jwz You didn’t! I’m sorry I was unclear; I actually agree with you. All the folks praising the episode are so dazzled with glee that they overlook the fake “everything is a fair target” argument or find it an acceptable price to pay. And by telling all their friends how great it is, come watch, South Park is valid again, they’re (re-)normalizing harm.
Which is guess is to say nothing has changed.

@jwz this entire list x1000.

My favorite response was something like "just because M&T are infighting with fascist daddy doesn't mean they're on our side"
