Nothing says Baofeng like "tacticool" 🙄#hamradio
***crappy cheap radio... great because it is cheap... but poor RF performance, breaks easily, not easy to program. Did I mention it's a crappy cheap radio? Popular with Meal Team Six types.
@ai6yr Which HT do you prefer?
@jfew Yaesu FT-60
@ai6yr The FT-60 was my first HT. But I've picked up a few Baofeng devices since and some are surprisingly capable. I have a UV-PRO that has some really interesting mobile control (Android) options. Can't say that the core functionality is stellar, but the amenities are neat.

@ai6yr well to be fair to the meal team six types they spend most of their money putting tacti-cool gear on their AR’s communications is an afterthought.

I also like the thought that these fuck nuts communications will break down at a moments notice

@ai6yr Radio so cheap I can buy two and keep one as a spare and then keep them all in sync with CHIRP, Baofeng gets the Cheapskate Seal of Quantity, I actually hope one will break so I can get an upgrade but it never does

Those books are full of chestnuts like “welllllll technically you have to have a FCC license but when ess aitch tee eff and there is danger to life and property *wink* anything goes”

@ai6yr I respectfully disagree. I have several all programmed similarly with CHIRP. If I lose one or one breaks, it's a "New York Reload," just grab another one.
Meal Team Six types notwithstanding, there's a lot to like about something you can use without it being so precious that losing or breaking it will set you back a lot more money.
All the "big three's" HTs are grossly overpriced, except for the low-end Yaesu ones.
@KC1UDN Oh, I have a lot of them myself... but, find it's well worth the next step up to a decent handheld (low end Yaesu, as you mention).
