Internet Archive Is Now a Federal Depository Library

Internet Archive, a nonprofit library based in San Francisco, has been given federal depository status. The designation was given by California Senator Alex Padilla, in a letter sent to the Government Publishing Office.

@gutenberg_org apparently libraries can qualify for this or be chosen for this but can also take the status or leave it,

and they get to serve federal documents free of charge to the end user

but they _have_ to serve federal documents free of charge to the end user

unfortunately, i couldn't figure out if they get reimbursed for any additional operating costs at some other level

either way, uh, cool i guess?
