What do you call lemmy/mastodon then?
The best distiction iāve heard is that social media follows people (twitter, youtube, mastodon, etcā¦ whereas lemmy, reddit, etcā¦ follow topics. Theyāre more like news feeds with a comment section.

Thatās not the point of contention. Itās about whether or not forums/message boards (regardless of political ideology) can correctly be categorized as āsocial mediaā.
They wrongly contend that not only is that possible but in fact inarguably correct.
I, on the other hand, correctly pointed out the ridiculousness of such a claim.
This in turn made them jump to the separate incorrect conclusion that my slightly brusque wordplay was proof positive that I was overcome with apoplectic fits of all-consuming rage and that fondling lawn trimmings would be an effective remedy.

Lemmy reporting on lemmy is just regular old news iām pretty sure. Would an online newspaper with a comment section count as social media then? How about paper newspapers with an active ācomments from readersā section?
If you just wanted to follow a topic, you could follow Wikipedia RSS feeds.

Yeah, I came from ebaumsworld forums to Reddit, and Reddit to here, and they all scratch the same itch, which is basically me engaging in meaningless (not always) conversation with people, sometimes seriously, sometimes jokingly. All thatās changed is how it looks and how people talk.
