Getting the feeling that Apple has no fucking idea what it’s doing with Liquid Glass.

And that’s going to make it a rough fall for everyone.

Thank goodness for UIDesignRequiresCompatibility.

@chockenberry It is my understanding that this is just a temporary tool for development and will be later removed as Tahoe matures... probably like a few point releases out?
@marioguzman @chockenberry The implication was that it would removed in the next major release, but if the overwhelming majority of devs use it, who knows.
@marioguzman @chockenberry they explicitly say it will be removed in the next major release. But they’ve made those kinds of claims before and there was enough pushback that they extended it. I would not be surprised at all if some big companies either pushed for it to get extended or negotiated their own exception.
@chockenberry It's a real Emperor Has No Clothes moment. Just sat here, SMDH.
@chockenberry Is this a Maps moment? Will Apple issue an apology that Alan Dye refuses to sign, so Tim has to do it, followed by a “resignation”? 🤞
@chockenberry Windows Vista and later Windows 7 used it on limited amount of surfaces and it actually looked really nice. Apple is just slapping "glass" on EVERYTHING. Some menus and apps look absolutely horrific to a point you can barely use them.
@chockenberry I am having hard times judging what they do becaus the lack of knowledge of what is happening in the teams working on it.
@chockenberry There’s no macOS equivalent of this right? I didn’t ever hear a mention of it. I think I’m just going to stick with the current version Xcode for a bit.

@robotspacer I haven’t tried it yet, so I don’t know.

If not, you should be able to use the new version of Xcode as long as the deployment target is macOS 16.

@chockenberry @robotspacer Forced tech adoption is fashionable now. I discovered today that Google remapped my Android phone's SOS/restart/off UI to activate Gemini instead. The enshittiest enshittification I've ever shitnessed. It makes me want to empty a cement mixer into a data center

@rezmason @chockenberry @robotspacer

Maybe an power surge coupled with a cement mixer!

@rezmason @chockenberry @robotspacer I recently undid that misfeature. The power button is now the "side" button (not to be confused with the other two buttons in the side of the phone...)
@chockenberry Good point, thanks for the reminder!
@robotspacer @chockenberry that certainly works for Mac Catalyst apps so it might be systemwide?
@robotspacer @chockenberry The same Info.plist key should also work for Mac apps using UIKit, SwiftUI, or AppKit.
