It looks like Cardiff Council (perhaps noting how authoritarianism seems to be on trend) has decided that collective punishment of rioters is all well and good... household (families) of those convicted of riot (in Ely in 2023) will face eviction from their homes.

Whatever the offenders have done, how can it be fair/just to evict their families from their homes?

Each week this country becomes a little more authoritarian & a little less democratic.

@ChrisMayLA6 Wasn't collective punishment one of the crimes against humanity for which various Nazis were jailed and executed at Nurmeburg after the war?

@cstross @ChrisMayLA6

Indeed it was - but best be careful as to when, where or in whose company you refer to this!

@cstross @ChrisMayLA6

It may be worth listing a set of euphemisms and synonyms that can get past the vigilance of those trying to police discussion of what may be happening in #gaza - just as in the early stages of the American civil war freed slaves were referred to as 'contraband of war' or #contrabands . Since all civilian deaths have been ascribed to collateral damage or inadvertence then both dead and seriously wounded civilians should be described as #collaterals and #inadvertents .
