Like many others, I am in the process of leaving the Meta bubble. I wrote a blog post on why and how, which also includes a template and a graphic for an "exit-statement", that you're more than welcome to use if you have similar plans and want to let your friends know before pulling the plug: https://fynnlaue.com/bye-meta

@alemann @HappyPinto thanks for the pointer @alemann - only checked the account after reading your comment and it does feel a bit spammy/preachy. That said I did check out the links because I was curious and like to have my views challenged.

There is some interesting content, but some statements, eg about Signal Foundation's leadership and company structure, feel presumptuous and some details inaccurate - eg Threema not using any 3rd party servers is not true.

Of course a healthy dose of skepticism is always good and Signal, in fact no messenger, is a magic bullet against all surveillance risks. While the criticism and concerns in the articles are valid, they aren't proven factors of leaks and not everyone has the threat model of an undercover investigative journalist.

So I'll still stick to recommending Signal to people trying to escape the big-tech data collection grasp 🙂

@fynn1 @HappyPinto saw it being posted in the past by other accounts but with the exact same formatting, that's how I recognize it
@alemann @HappyPinto good to know, thanks! I'm new here so don't have much spot-the-copy-pasta mileage yet.
