Since I was unable to boot from USB (and I've no access to DVD burner) I had to boot from lan. Adapting a tutorial to boot Ubuntu 21 using Windows utilities through Wine:

Robert Bates@eibriel Always great to see a perfectly good piece of older hardware not winding up in a landfill just because the manufacturer and mainstream OS vendors have dropped support for it.
I recently loaded ProxMox VE onto a maxed-out MacPro 2010, and it is happily serving terabytes of SSD content across a dozen servers.
