@DelilahTech Ah! Thanks! What I really need is a photo of one for my PhD (ideally one vulnerable to the ol' rubbed-off-buttons side channel); was hoping to source it from the hive mind.

But the more I think about it, the more I'm not sure people will want to share pictures of vulnerable doors in their lives ;-)

@heavyimage @DelilahTech
I've got loads, it's finding them!
...
Can't find any. Got one 5 button code (Simplex) and a few Digimech XYZ, but can't find anything with 0-9, sorry.

@Dss @DelilahTech OMG NKT -- you'd be a perfect person for this!

I think the main thrust is the physical wear and tear side channels so as long as there are buttons it could work? Would you be willing to send photos of em that you're happy for me to reproduce?

@heavyimage @DelilahTech I can ask the usual suspects.
@Dss @heavyimage @DelilahTech Usually suspicious person here. Will this do?
@terryip @Dss @DelilahTech that is perfect! Omg! Amazing. Let me figure out how the licensing works. You’re happy for me to use this though?
@terryip @Dss @DelilahTech I pinged the copyright office at my uni. Waiting to hear back how to do the proper incantation to appease Lord Copythulu.

@terryip @Dss @DelilahTech Alright! I heard back from the copyright heads. They write:

1/?

Two main things that you need:
1) for them to warrant that they are the copyright owner (e.g. that they are the photographer and copyright owner of the image)
2) that they are happy to give you a non-exclusive worldwide licence for use of the image within your thesis which will be made publicly available online.

@terryip @Dss @DelilahTech

2?
You could just get them to agree to that in an email or DM chat (save a copy of the chat or screenshot it with date and time included for your records). E.g.:

"I, (name of person), warrant that I am the rights holder in (name of image) and I am provide (your name) with a non-exclusive worldwide licence for use of (name of image) within their thesis which will be made publicly available online."

@terryip @Dss @DelilahTech

3/3

Just ensure to fully reference the person where the image appears in the thesis and to make it clear that the copyright is still theirs.

@terryip @Dss @DelilahTech

So Terry -- if you are cool with and could chant the magical incantation above for me, I can make this happen! In exchange I will state that the image appears with your permission.

Also I was wondering if you could take a slightly wider photo of the lock so I can see the whole thing? Having it on that craft board is perfect.
