folk from City Connection and Grev (plus ever-lurking Mikado manager Ikeda) talk Mamorukun Recurse https://www.famitsu.com/article/202507/47170 🇯🇵

the big takeaway: aside from simply wanting to trim the ever-increasing length of the game's title, they do say that the Mamonoro KAI! title has some further meaning that they'll be able to divulge soon, and they also say that the CC x Grev collab isn't ending with this game.

CC president Yoshikawa's a particularly big fan of Mamorukun... could this be a sequel tease?

@gosokkyu

Bit of topic, but if there's anyone I could ask, it has to be you.

Has there been any talk about LiveWire doing more Cave rereleases on Switch?

I was so hopeful when they did the original 3, but then it took so long for them to release Saidaioujou.

@outofprintarchive not a peep, but they're not a particularly communicative company nor one that announces things too far in advance

they've basically timed their releases/announces around Nintendo announcements iirc, so hold out hope for the next Direct, I guess

@gosokkyu

Ah, that's a shame.

I have all of them on my import 360, but it would be so nice to have them on a modern system as well.

Been thinking about the M2 shooters that only released on PS4 as well like Dangun Feveron, Ketsui, Battle Garagga and Mahou Daisakusen as of late.
But I guess it's a bit too late for them to be ported to Switch now.
I wonder why they never did, while Dangun Feveron even got an Xbox release...

@outofprintarchive XB was down to M2's president being a XB fanboy, essentially

they took a little while to build up to Switch for technical reasons, and then the sales made it very obvious that they should stay there... iirc the president did say they might port the missing games starting from Mahou & working backwards, but they say a lot of things

@gosokkyu

I bought them the day they released, but since they never went up on my regional store, I had to switch the country region to even be able to buy them on Xbox.

But it soon became apparent that the market just wasn't there at all and everyone and everything moved on to Switch.

Seeing the new Shmups Junkie video on all the shooters for the Saturn pop up this past weekend really puts things into perspective.
There are 70 entries in that video and it was my favourite system back in the day, due to all the arcade ports.

But looking at my switch now, I already have 177 digital shoot em ups on it and like 50 or 60 physical releases as well, with more on the way.

I never thought I'd see the day of the genre making such a comeback, even if the vast majority are ports.

@outofprintarchive personally, I have to wonder whether they're reaching new audiences or whether we're seeing the last gasp of the existing audience looking to pick up old games for what may be the final time...

@gosokkyu

No matter how much I want it not to be true, I'm fearing that it is indeed the latter.
There have to be new players jumping into the genre for sure, but I doubt they are doing so in numbers that would explain this boom.

Looking at how shoot em up channels in the west have been dying off, that certainly doesn't paint a rosy picture if even the most dedicated start disappearing....
