I asked the question : Do you want a laptop with Copilot+?

1% said yes.
96% said (hell) no.
3% were not sure.

This is a great example of something being pushed that most really do not want.

Big Tech is very focused on winning the AI war. Problem is, that in their eagerness to do that, they focus just on what they want you to do, instead of what you want to do.

“they focus just on what they want you to do, instead of what you want to do”
I like this one
@jon @Vivaldi Linux, baby. Linux! (said the guy who still has to keep (1) Windows 11 laptop in service)
@jon @Vivaldi
On monday I'm leaving Windows 10 for Linux. I'm done with M$ and will probably never use their AI slop OS again.
@jon @Vivaldi how do we defend ourselves? I mean not as individuals, but as a society?
@Ketakater @jon @Vivaldi Unfortunately, Sacrifice. Vote with your wallet. Refuse to use what you do not want to use. This may mean that you have to forego opportunities that require you to use software that you do not want to use. It’s a hard ask and a hard sell. In the present case, Microsoft Windows costs 0€ to the user. (1/2)
Microsoft Office costs 5€ a month for all the office apps which are the most polished in the business, most entrenched in the business and 1TB of very well integrated cloud storage. (2/2)

@jon @Vivaldi mmmmphh... I see a bias: "so fast generalization", "sampling bias". I mean, this question is in fediverse, you need publish it in other social media.

but, of course, AI must be optional

@jon @Vivaldi

But... fediverse is not a representative sample ;) My dad loves all the MS AI bullshit, for example - and I imagine a lot of people from outside of our bubble would, as well.

MS doesn't run focus groups on fedizens

@jon @Vivaldi The result of the survey here is hardly surprising.
The question I ask myself: is this also representative of Generation z? As I understand it, they also tend to use ki more. And as i sae in another poll is that the most people here are not gen z.
@jon @Vivaldi There’s a gorgeous new purple Surface that I would buy tomorrow if it didn’t have Copilot+. I’m a Linux fan, but usually don’t put it on a brand new machine that might have hardware conflicts I can’t fix. I like to give it a couple of years for others to work those out. 😄
@jon @Vivaldi
You know what I think?
This poll only reflects the opinion of those on the #Fediverse. Many people here on the #Fediverse are more “with the feet on the ground” I think, compared to those #Microsoft listens (at least partially) to.
So, IDK to what extent it can be inferred that “most really do not want” it.

@jon @Vivaldi, I prefer to lick my ellbow before tolerating this crap in my laptop.

It is amazing how fast and stable becomes Windows when all this bloatware, spyware and services "to improve the user experience" is thrown out, which Windows brings by default.

@jon @Vivaldi AI Tools could be useful, I think people wouldn't be against the idea if not for THOSE tools from THOSE companies.
@jon @Vivaldi This survey is not relevant because everyone who is your follower is more or less Vivaldi user.
@jon @Vivaldi I'd like to have a (high performance) ARM laptop for linux - don't care for the branding, as long as the support for hardware is given. So at some point, I'll probably buy such a thing as a "Copilot+ Laptop", without ever increasing copilot user count.
@jon @Vivaldi AI is the new Blu-Ray.

@jon @Vivaldi

I also do not want a summary, instead of the article I just ran a search on. That one is on everything now.

@jon @Vivaldi i don’t want copilot+ but if i was given a powerful new laptop with copilot windows, i’d keep it, grumble and install mint or something
@jon @Vivaldi i want my laptop with endeavour os
